UNISA-KZN Computer Labs
About Us
Technology is no longer just a buzzword aimed at frustrating the ill-informed. The technological revolution that has swept the entire world has seen the evolution of everyday life where for example, the question is no longer whether or not one owns a cell phone but rather which network are you on?
There is a saying that goes: "As constant as change". The traditional UNISA of old is no more, not only in terms of the addtional institutions that now form part of the present day UNISA viz. VISTA, Technikon SA and the former UNISA but also in the manner in which UNISA now offers its modules and support thereof. Technology is now at the center of academic support which in turn has seen the transformation of myUnisa as the key support platform.
Computer labs play a pivotal role in ensuring that UNISA realistically addresses the technology gap that exists within the broader society. Students are given free access to computers and internet access. This albeit not adequate, tries to even the playing field between those that have access to technology and those that do not.
Whilst cognisant of the fact that computer labs are not training centers, basic directional assistance is still nonetheless offered to students who access or make use of our facilities and this includes "in situ" basic keyboard and mouse skills crash courses. This is atimed at ensuring that computer illiterate students are not left at the deep end and that we give real meaning to the term "Support". We also periodically run three days basic computer skills classes which are run after hours.
The list of services is not static as depicted in our vision. We aim to be responsive and relevant without compromising on quality.
